What is "Agroforestry" you ask!
Agroforestry is the practice of combining agriculture and forestry technologies to create more integrated, diverse, productive, profitable, healthy and sustainable land-use systems.
While farmers have been practicing agroforestry for years, the technology and productivity of these systems continues to evolve. The Jamaica Tree Growers Association is in the process of compiling a list of tree species, which are suitable to Jamaican climate and agricultural systems in an effort to promote income generation and sustainable farming systems.
Tree species commonly used in agroforestry include:
Coffee, Ackee, Breadfruit, Pear/Avocadoes, Nesberry, Star Apple, Cashew, Macadamia, Lychee, Coco Plum, Mountain Apple, Sour Sop/Custard Apples, Mango, Jackfruit, Calabash
